CAN ART EASE THE FLOODING OF VENICE?
For the last five years, the artist Andreco has created a series of sculptural installations and murals throughout the cities of Europe. Paris, Bari, and Bologna all feature his work. Every piece is place-informed - showcasing the specific vulnerabilities of each location to a changing climate. In Venice, where high winds in October of 2019 put three-quarters of the city underwater, Andreco gathers information for his geometric sculptures and graph-like murals, information that he has gathered in his other profession as an environmental engineer. Andreco notes that formulae predict Venice will be underwater in 100 years. Could the consequence of his art suggest an alternate future?

A CLIMATE OF CHANGE: THE FUTURE OF AQUACULTURE
A Climate of Change is an Island Institute-produced video series about climate change effects on our nation's fisheries.
After traveling to Alaska to explore ocean acidification and to Apalachicola, Florida where one of the most valuable oyster fisheries in the country is on the verge of collapse, we return to Maine to focus on a positive future for the state's fishing communities through aquaculture and how more and more resource harvesters are seeing farmed shellfish and sea vegetables as a vital way to stay on the water.
